The United States will start sharing intelligence and giving military support to Ukraine again after both countries held a meeting in Saudi Arabia on 11 March.
In a joint statement, it was announced that Ukraine agreed to a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. This temporary peace agreement could be extended if Russia also agrees to it.
The statement said: "Today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the US and Ukraine took important steps toward long-lasting peace for Ukraine. Both countries praised the courage of the Ukrainian people and agreed that now is the right time to work toward peace."
Ukraine thanked President Trump, the US Congress, and the American people for supporting their country and helping move closer to peace.
Ukraine said it was ready to accept the US plan for a 30-day ceasefire, which could be extended if all sides agree. But it depends on Russia accepting the deal and taking action at the same time. The US will now talk to Russia and say that peace depends on their cooperation.
Because of this agreement, the US will now lift the pause on intelligence sharing and restart security assistance to Ukraine.
Both sides also talked about helping people affected by the war, including exchanging prisoners, freeing civilians, and bringing back children taken from Ukraine.
They also agreed to begin peace talks soon and involve European countries in the process. The US and Ukraine will also work on a deal to help Ukraine grow its economy through mining its natural resources, which will help pay for US support and secure Ukraine’s future.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the offer will now be presented to Russia. He hopes Russia will agree. He added, "Ukraine is ready to stop fighting and start talking."
